Interest rates are currently nestled at a 23-year high after the Fed launched an aggressive rate-hiking campaign two years ago. Inflation is down considerably from a four-decade peak reached in the summer of 2022, but recent inflation reports have shown persistent price pressures in services and housing. First rate cut in the summer? Wall Street already wasn’t betting on a rate cut in May, but some analysts are estimating the first cut could come some time in the summer. Analysts at Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Nomura are estimating a first rate cut in July.

Why gold prices are at record highs

Central banks see gold as a long-term store of value and a safe haven during times of economic and international turmoil. When interest rates fall, gold prices tend to rise, as bullion becomes more appealing than income-paying assets like bonds. Investors also regard gold as a hedge against inflation, betting bullion will retain its value when prices rise. The People’s Bank of China bought gold for the 17th straight month in March, adding 160,000 ounces to bring reserves to 72.74 million troy ounces of gold, according to Reuters. Higher oil prices are likely to stoke concerns over inflation, boosting gold prices, according to the UBS research note.

These proteins cause the walls of a person’s blood vessels to keep growing and thicken over time. As the blood vessels narrow, the heart is forced to work harder to pump blood to the lungs. Treatment with a combination of drugs that dilate, or relax, blood vessels can improve this outlook, but they are not a cure. Both groups were also taking the standard medications for the condition, which help relax blood vessels to improve blood flow. But Galiatsatos said that as promising as the drug looks, there are still many unknowns, including whether the drug will benefit all PAH patients equally.

Investors weighing a shift into dividend stocks may be better off focusing on companies with big share buyback programs instead, according to Bank of America. The idea behind focusing on stock buybacks is that companies that can use excess cash to reduce their share count through buybacks are likely on strong financial footing. This is more of a pure-play buyback fund, tracking the Nasdaq US Buyback Achievers Index. To be sure, stock buybacks are a frequent target of politicians and their tax treatment could change in the years ahead. Vinyl records are now so hot they move UK inflation

London CNN —The prices of vinyl records will feed into UK inflation statistics for the first time since 1992, highlighting a surge in their popularity among British consumers driven in part by Taylor Swift. UK inflation has slowed from 11.1% to 4% but remains above the central bank’s 2% target. LPs — which dropped out of the UK inflation basket more than three decades ago, owing to the rise of CDs and cassettes — have made a huge comeback in recent years. Last year, 6.1 million vinyl records were sold in Britain, the highest number since 1990, according to data from the British Phonographic Industry, an association of UK record companies and labels. One of Wall Street's favorite investment vehicles turns 25 years old on Sunday, but shows no signs of fading to the background as it ages. One of the main conversation points around the 2023 rally for the QQQ, and the entire U.S. market, is the dominance of just a handful of key stocks. Over the years, many key stocks have left the fund, including former top performers like Nextel Communications and Sun Microsystems, which were bought out. Amazon (AMZN) is set to report earnings this Thursday after the bell with the stock on a roll and expectations high. However, there are signs that the impressive run may be headed for overhead resistance, according to the charts. Further, there are signs within the consumer discretionary sector that recent underperformance compared to the rest of the 'growth trade' may persist. The consumer discretionary space has been showing signs of weakness relative to the other growth/offensive sectors like technology and communications that continue to power ahead. If so, the sub-mega cap companies in consumer discretionary may have their work cut out for them.

As attractive as today's yields may look on certain dividend-paying stocks, they only tell part of the story when you're choosing names for income. Lower interest rates make other income-generating assets, including dividend-paying stocks, more attractive compared to the risk-free yields on Treasurys. Dividend stocks took their lumps during 2022 as the Fed embarked on its rate hikes – consider that the Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (VIG) posted a total return of negative 9% in 2022 – and rate-sensitive income stocks in the utilities and real estate sector suffered.
